After 36 years of working in the medical field and 3 years of teaching, Jamie retired and in February 2023 she and her husband Josh adopted two labradoodles named Lucky (the mom) and CJ (Lucky’s pup), thus The Lucky Pup Bakery was founded.
“I was shocked at what is in some of the treats that we fed our fur-babies. In April, I had a ripening banana and I decided to make some doggy treats. The first treats were OK but not great. I started experimenting with different ingredients and baking methods. It took about three months to perfect recipes, packaging, getting a tax license, marketing and all the things that go into a small business,” notes Jamie.
Jamie was encouraged by her husband Josh to pursue her dream. Josh is even one of the taste-testers along with Lucky and CJ. The treats are made from natural ingredients including fresh baked sweet potatoes, carrots, fresh apples, pumpkin, bananas, eggs, Flax seed, peanut butter, Whole Wheat Flour, oats, and healthy oils like Coconut Oil. Several customers have requested a Grain Free/Gluten Free option thus almond flour, coconut flour, or brown rice flour are used.
The newest item of interest are different Super Doggy Treats that contain ingredients that are known to help reduce joint inflammation, improve brain function and skin health. “I love research and investigating new items. You might say nutrition is in my blood,” noted Jamie. She holds a Master Degree in Nutrition, is a Registered Dietitian RDN, LD, and Certified Diabetes Educator/Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.
The Lucky Pup Bakery has been at the Nacogdoches Farmer’s Market each Saturday since June. Jamie wants to encourage everyone to come to the Nacogdoches Farmer’s Market. “I have enjoyed the NFM and all the vendors. It is so much fun meeting the people and sharing the love of our fur-babies.”
